The problem with finding out late
Humble bundles are not a race in the way a limited key drop is. They usually run for a couple of weeks, so nothing sells out the first evening. The problem is a quieter one: you simply forget.
A bundle you would have bought launches while you are busy, the email gets buried, and three weeks later someone mentions it and it has already ended. That is the single most common way people miss a Humble bundle, and it is exactly what a ping on the launch day prevents.
The second issue is signal-to-noise. Humble runs games, books, software, comics, and asset packs. If you are there for the game bundles, a steady stream of Unity asset and technical-book bundles is noise, and vice versa. Splitting them by channel fixes that.

Game bundles
The classic format: three or so tiers, pay more to unlock more games, with a slider that splits your payment between the publisher, Humble and a charity. Usually built around a publisher, a franchise or a genre.
Book bundles
Technical and programming books, RPG rulebooks and supplements, comics and fiction, mostly DRM-free. These are consistently some of the best value on the site and the easiest to overlook if you are only watching for games.
Software and asset bundles
Creative software, game engines and plugins, Unity and Unreal asset packs, courses and productivity tools. Worth a role of its own if you build things; easy to mute entirely if you do not.
A note on Humble Choice
Humble Choice is the monthly subscription rather than a one-off bundle, so it works differently from everything above. The channels here focus on the individual bundles that launch and expire, which are the ones where launch-day timing actually changes what you get.
